"Tom" been one of the leaders of his for almost seven years and has been in charge for the past two years. The team has done so badly and lost so much money that the company is going to merge his team into another. To recognize this miserable performance, the company is going to pay Tom a bonus of five times his annual salary when he leaves. They say this is not out of line.

Maybe it's "not out of line" in their fantasy world, but it sure is in mine. It's one more case of a CEO being rewarded more for dismal failure than the people on his team are rewarded for their stunning successes.
