My 2021 resolutions are all about the kitchen

I'm choosing to see this year as an opportunity.

My 2021 Resolutions Are All About the Kitchen
Lauryn Bodden
Waking up in 2021 I am consumed by a hangover of emotions from the past year—and possibly one or two champagne cocktails. Most importantly I am hopeful and anxious to write a new year of memories, recipes, and food adventures in this still very odd time. I often viewed resolutions as a means of setting myself up for failure, but as I put my 2021 optimist hat on I can see they are an opportunity for growth and discovery.

This year I will try to cook one meal a week WITH my partner. Sounds easy enough, but often my Type A personality turns this into a one-woman cooking show—this may stem from my years in professional kitchens and his years behind a coding wall. Between healthier eating, sustainability, testing new gadgets, lowering our carbon footprint, and even organization, we will turn our passions to the kitchen.

Together we will dust off one of the many idling cookbooks on my shelves or turn to social media to find a dish, cuisine, or flavor profile that inspires us. We will shop together, discussing ingredients and sourcing. And most importantly, we will work as a team in the kitchen from start to finish. Wine may be necessary at points, but I have faith.

We are one of many to add an Air Fryer to our lineup this holiday season, which will no doubt take the priority of our menu planning from easy snacks to more indulgent fare. Utilizing every scrap of produce and protein is a big priority for us as we continue our efforts to compost any necessary waste. The air fryer will be my go-to resource beyond my usual broth and soup production.

I am looking forward to sharing my journey with The Spruce Eats community and updating you on my road to kitchen teamwork. Please share your resolutions and tag us, so we can uplift each other in this new year.
