A homemade appetizer feast might be just what you need.
| | Confession: I'm Canadian, and despite having lived in New York for the past five years, I don't really celebrate American Thanksgiving, at least not with turkey. But this year, all bets are off when it comes to what's normal, and I'm taking any excuse to eat delicious food that I wouldn't otherwise have at a different time of year.
While I already had my turkey and stuffing dinner back in October, next weekend is going to be all about appetizers. And if you're not having your regular large family gathering, a homemade appetizer feast might be just what you need.
Retro cheese balls are making a comeback, and couldn't be simpler. Turn turkey and stuffing into festive crockpot meatballs. Or kick up your bland turkey and serve it buffalo style. No winter holiday is complete without cranberry and cheese puff pastry bites (which are so much better than the frozen kind) or crab cakes (which are super easy to make gluten-free).
Dips and spreads, from classic spinach dip to zingy jalapeno popper dip, will round out any appetizer meal. There are also plenty of make-ahead appetizer options if you're hoping to just sit back, relax, binge your favorite holiday movies, and sip on one or two spirited cocktails.
