From Dan McCarthy, your Guide to Management

I was honored to be asked by About.com to take over their Management site back in April of 2014. The previous Management Expert, F. John Rey, had recently passed away, and the About editors were looking for a successor. At the time, although like most people, I had been a frequent visitor to About, I didn’t really know much about the site and never considered freelance writing for someone else. I already had my own blog, Great Leadership, and had a full plate managing Executive Development programs at the University of New Hampshire, as well as owning my own leadership coaching and consulting business.

I’m glad I accepted the new challenge! Writing for About has given me the opportunity to contribute to the development of a whole new audience of leaders and aspiring leaders. While I had already written over 800 posts and an eBook, writing for About has inspired me to offer fresh, updated practical tips and advice on management and leadership topics. I never run out of ideas, because most of what I write about is based on my day-to-day work in management and leadership development. I also love getting requests from readers, so if there is a topic you would like to know more about, please send me an email. I can’t respond to specific situations (I don’t write an advice column), but I do read them all and will try to address those that would could be of interest to a broader audience.

For this week’s newsletter, I went back and reviewed over seventy 2014 articles and selected my 10 best (based on pageviews and my personal favorites). I hope you enjoy, and please share them and this newsletter with others.

I look forward to writing for you in 2015!
